Mission Columbus

Mission Columbus is the flagship ministry of the Columbus Baptist Association. Mission Columbus incorporates a diverse assortment of ministries. Mission Columbus serves as an umbrella under which these various ministries operate. Resource Missionary David Lix likes to say, “We are more than just a food bank—we are a resource and missions network helping churches fulfill Acts 1:8, reaching people both locally and beyond.”

This is the first half of Mission Columbus’ most known ministry. We combat food insecurity with love, dignity, and personal preferences. Families can shop in our store for the food they need and that their family will eat. This is provided to them at no cost thanks to the generosity of our churches and individuals. During this last fiscal year, Mission Columbus served over 6,000 families, representing 16,333 individuals, at a cost of $34,000. Since the pandemic, Mission Columbus has distributed over 810,000 pounds of food to those in need.

Guests are seen every day from Monday through Thursday by appointment. Appointment calls are received beginning at 9:00 AM daily. Call (706)507-4672 to schedule an appointment.

This is the second half of Mission Columbus’ most known ministry. New and slightly used clothing is donated to us by our churches and individuals allowing us to provide them at no cost to the families who receive them. Those items are evaluated, tagged, and organized, then displayed where families can shop in a boutique-style setting. During this last fiscal year, over 30,000 articles of clothing were given to families in need. We also hosted two mobile clothing giveaways, handing out more than 4,100 articles of clothing.

The Christmas Toy Shop is one of the biggest and most exciting single events we host all year. Families in need can shop for toys based on the child’s gender and age, which they would not be able to provide for their children otherwise. Most of these only-new toys are donated by individuals through our churches. For Christmas 2024, $43,000 worth of toys were received by 203 families, representing 711 children. The greatest gift of all was that 57 individuals who were introduced to Jesus made professions of faith during that Toy Shop.

During this last fiscal year, Mission Columbus distributed over 500 backpacks to local churches and schools to support students in need. When we supply the churches and they partner with the school, it can develop into a long-term multi-faceted relationship between that church and that school.

This is a relatively new ministry to Mission Columbus and was birthed out of our response to a family in need whose house had burned leaving them with very little in terms of basic needs. God has provided us with larger items through our churches and individuals that we are able to deliver to those in need. Our premise has been, “When God gives it to us, we will give it to you.” During this last fiscal year, Mission Columbus has assisted 19 burnout victims, provided temporary housing for 18 individuals, and helped 9 families find their first home.

Mission Columbus has a trailer outfitted for block parties. While we do not allow it to be used by individuals for birthday parties and such, we do allow our local churches to use it for evangelistic community events and mission trips. During this last fiscal year, it was used 18 times that way.

Columbus Baptist churches can reserve the Block Party Trailer on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here to reserve the trailer

Everything we do through Mission Columbus is done through the lens of evangelism. Why do we do what we are doing? Because souls are being saved. During the last fiscal year, through the ministry efforts of Mission Columbus, we saw 246 individuals pray to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Mission Columbus! We currently have 87 active monthly volunteers who together served over 13,000 man-hours this last fiscal year. To become a volunteer, click here
